Healing through natural energy flow

Interviewed: George Wellsbury
By: Desiree Roper

15 years ago, George Wellsbury found out that when he sat beside people or when he had physical contact with them, somehow, they seemed to recover from pain and illness quickly.

At the time not quite sure what he was doing, he began to play around with this when one day, someone told him that what he was doing was called Reiki, a Japanese technique that promotes healing and stress reduction.

By channeling energy, the Reiki Practitioner through the “laying on hands” restores energy to the body that has become unbalanced. Reiki is non-invasive usually requiring no actual touching of the client. However, in some instances the Reiki Practitioner may gently touch the client in a non-invasive way when directing the energy to a specific location.

As George began further investigating and reading more books, he began realizing that he had a natural gift and started practicing more with family and friends. “Someone asked me if I was certified. I did not know that there was a certification for Reiki,” George said. “I started looking around for a reputable Reiki course until I found one that felt right.”

Anyone who has any kind of pain, illness or stress can benefit from Reiki.  There are no limitations to the benefits that can be received from Reiki. George explained that people come to him because of headaches or migraines, lack of energy, sleeping disorders, stress as well as more severe conditions like car accidents and illnesses. He said, “All of my clients report feeling much better even after just one Reiki session.”

Reiki is also a wonderful non-invasive treatment for both animals and children because they naturally accept the flow of energy during a Reiki session.

Typically a Reiki session lasts about one hour. In some cases if a client is experiencing multiple conditions or conditions that has allowed the condition to build up over time, the session may last longer.

“Each client’s situation is unique and the number of sessions required varies. It depends on what kind of issues the client has and how deep rooted the conditions are,” George explained. “Many clients enjoy such benefits as stress reduction, assistance with sleeping better, pain management and may schedule regular Reiki sessions to maintain overall well-being.”

How open-minded an individual is to receiving energy, can also affect how long the session will last. With open-minded people the energy seems to flow more naturally to the condition. Some people only require one session to feel relief where others may have a chronic or reoccurring condition that requires deeper healing.

“In taking traditional Usui Reiki, you are taught that the energy is intelligent and naturally flows to where it’s needed,” George said. “However, in my style that I’ve developed over the years, I have additional tools which allow me to focus the energy into specific areas to break up energy blockages which cause pain and stress.”

The word "Reiki" means spiritually guided life-force energy, which has intelligence. It's term comes from two Japanese words - Rei, which means God's wisdom or the higher power and “Ki” which is life-force energy.
